Well well, that is pleasing to see. It's curious to see most elements like emotional stability actually average out as constants, but while I'd expected outward behaviour to be higher for digital personas, I'm surprised to see inquisitiveness drop so. Hm.
ReplyDeleteI've no real judgements to speak of. It's all subjective anyway, but thank you for sharing this, Botgirl! It should give people something to think about. :)
Just for kicks, I ran a simple correlation (R-squared) between the "Human" and "Avatar" scores for each of the five variables. With the exception of Inquisativeness, the correlations are pretty low, and especially so for Extroversion and Orderliness:

Orderliness: 0.064
Emotional Stability: 0.377
Accommodation: 0.261
Inquisitiveness: 0.596
As I noted before, setting aside questions about the validity of the measures, the results are very interesting in that they are inconsistent with the view that "personality types" are relatively stable, and consistent with the situationist view that people's behavior (or, if you prefer, outward manifestation of personality) is strongly influenced by social context.
